Hermes Tie Competition

Here's a nice competition on the Designboom website in collaboration with Hermes.

You are asked to develop a new pattern that could be either a re-interpretation of the
Hermes classic patterns (equestrian -, sport -, marine theme, whimsical animal motifs,
geometric variations including stripes, plant and flower designs and the H delicately
imprinted across the surface of the tie) or something completely different,
that could be used for the silk-screen printing - or weaving technique.

-first prize € 3000 euro
-second prize € 2000 euro
-third prize € 1000 euro

Works can be submitted through august 05, 2009.

Steeztoday

Steeztoday is a website created in Cologne, Germany by Markus Vetten. Its a great place to keep up-to-date with the latest streetwear trends and offers its followers the chance to contribute. Although a little slow to take off in Europe it is already gaining strength in Asia with kids photographing themselves in their latest threads and kicks. Then uploading and showing off their outfits with a description for all interested parties to see and comment. I can only see this site going from strength to strength in the future....wheres my camera....www.steeztoday.com

Allotment Chic

I recently went to hang out with some friends of mine on their allotment. A British tradition for allowing suburban dwellers a chance to escape with their own piece of land, a tradition which had previously passed me by. In recent years 'The Good Life' self sufficiency has come back in a big way. Many people out there are not only thinking and living green but they are actually making it cool. If you are lucky enough to find a plot (2 or 3 year waiting lists are normal procedure) you should snap up the chance. Just imagine yourself in your wellies, sun light trying to penetrate your shades, whilst you while away your time, sitting on your piece of land, in the midst of urban life, admiring your strawberries. Cup of tea and a fresh cucumber sandwich anyone?
